2021, the year of the rebirth of a three-piece band from Toronto. After a year that so many of us want to forget, the band decided to rebrand and move forward. To create a new future for themselves.; 2020 was a year of learning and building a foundation for this which the band is excited for.
For the past few years, Total Runout, made up of twin brothers Alexander and Thomas Arthur, plus their best friend and roommate, Dan Morson, have been plugging away at the music scene in Toronto doing what most bands do. This reconfirmed their passion for their music and desire to “make it”. Not necessarily to have mainstream success, but for their music to be heard and shared.
They began working with their producer, Joey Virgilio, who then became another roommate allowing them to record their upcoming EP at their home. After a year of trying to pump out as much content as they could, they took a step back and heeded the advice of their manager to rebuild and slow down.
As of January 25, 2021, Total Runout will be known as Hideout Legacy.
This is in tribute to a venue, The Hideout, in which the band has had some of its biggest moments, where they formed a bond with their manager, and where they found their place within the Toronto Music Scene. A venue that always treated them well and unfortunately made the smart decision to close at the beginning of the pandemic.
Legacy is in honour of the legacy love that the twins' Grandparents shared who are also the inspiration for a couple of songs on the EP. Hideout Legacy was born. To some, it may not make sense, but to the band it made perfect sense and clicked right away. The name felt right as soon as it was suggested. Other names had potential, but this, this was it.
The feeling the band has for this name and the comfort it gives them, is what this modern alt-rock band wants you to feel listening to their music.
Hope it takes you on the same journey they have had getting to this point and that you can become part of their Legacy.
